Genting submits last minute Macau bid

The head of the Malaysian Genting Group, Lim Kok Thay, has been revealed as final bidder for a prized Macau casino licence.

With bidding closing on the evening of September 14th, Lim Kok Thay, billionaire Chairman of Malaysia’s Genting Group, GMM Limited, submitted the seventh and final bid to the Macau Government for one of the new casino licences, joining the six incumbents who had already submitted.

Described by one commentator as “the only truly global gaming operator”, the arrival of Genting into what is effectively a competitive tendering scenario, will obviously cause concern for those existing licence holders seeking to maintain their stakes in what has long been the world’s most valuable land-based market.
